Undocumented immigrants who drive without a license must be really careful, because they could be deported as soon as they are caught. Driving without a license is illegal.

To avoid deportation, 12 out of 50 American states allow illegal immigrants to process their license application so as they can legally drive in the United States.

What are these 12 states?

  1. California
  2. Colorado
  3. Connecticut
  4. Delaware
  5. Hawaii
  6. Illinois
  7. Maryland
  8. Nevada
  9. New Mexico
  10. Utah
  11. Vermont
  12. Washington

Additionally, there are campaigns right now in Florida, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Georgia, and others in order for undocumented people to be able to get their license. Nothing concrete has been done so far, though.

What are the requisites for the driving test

The Department of Motor Vehicles’ director, Armando Botello, says that it is necessary fro the applicant to meet the essential security requirements. He means the proper functioning of the headlights, the horn, the parking brake and the dashboard lights.

It is important that the driver’s window works well, that the windshield is clean, and that the car has at least a rear-view mirror and a left side-view mirror.

The vehicle must be insured and registered properly.

It is advisable that the passenger seat on which the driving inspector will sit is clean.

It is important that a driver with a valid license accompanies the applicant to the DMV office, because the latter cannot legally drive yet.
